Every spring, the San Francisco Decorator Showcase transforms an iconic home into a living gallery of design, where visitors can wander through rooms positively bursting with inspiration. And this year’s Showcase? It’s as bold, beautiful, and boundary-pushing as ever. Since 2016, Revitaliste has had the joy of partnering with some of the Bay Area’s most creative minds to breathe new life into old furniture for this much-loved event.

This year, we were honored to collaborate with five visionary design firms—John K Anderson, Katie Monkhouse, Julie Rootes Interiors, HKB Interior Design, and TRG Architects—to weave revitalized pieces into their thoughtfully curated rooms. From sculptural seating to soulful vintage finds, each piece was transformed with intention and artistry.

Read on to discover the stories behind each space—and the revitalized gems that helped bring them to life.

Way out West: A Technicolor Time-Out

There is nowhere we’d rather take a good old-fashioned timeout than in John K Anderson’s technicolor rooftop listening lounge at this year’s Decorator Showcase. We were honored to collaborate with John and his team to reupholster this monumental semi circle vintage sofa in richly textured fabrics from Sandra Jordan Prima Alpaca and Casamance. We also fabricated custom pillows and cushions in vibrant colors and rich textures with fabrics from Dedar, Rosemary Hallgarten and Designers Guild. Read on to learn more about our collaboration!

What inspired your decision to reupholster a vintage sofa for this space, rather than sourcing something new or going custom?

The decision was multi-faceted, but a big factor was immediacy—a vintage piece is available now, no lead times required. This particular sofa was ideal: a 1970s semicircular design that encourages conversation, perfect for a space centered around vintage audio equipment rather than a TV. We also love vintage for its unmistakable style and, of course, because reuse is a more sustainable choice.

What do you think a revitalized piece brings to a space that a brand-new piece might not?

Soul and a story! A new piece cannot achieve this and incorporation of these kinds of pieces is a fundamental part of every project we do.

What was your thought process in selecting the new fabrics for the sofa?

The sofa was calling for something distinctive, soft, and luxurious—and the Sandra Jordan Prima Alpaca in Periwinkle was the perfect match for our vibe and color palette. To complement it, we framed the piece in a Casamance bouclé, which added visual structure and a beautifully tailored finish.

Do you have any favorite sources or strategies when it comes to finding vintage pieces?

We have a trusted mix of vintage sources both here in the Bay Area and around the world. I’m always on the hunt for pieces with distinctive character and special details that make them truly stand out.

What was your experience like collaborating with Revitaliste on this project?

Working with Revitaliste on this project was a great experience. Their streamlined process takes the pressure off my team, allowing us to focus on other aspects of the project instead of micromanaging a workroom. And the lead times? Truly unbeatable.
